Amazing mic preamps designed for live performance and broadcast

Focusrite went back to the drawing board with the RedNet MP8R to create an amazing set of preamps, now with up to +28dBu input level, -20dB pad, phase invert, high/low impedance modes, and even better common mode rejection. With plenty of headroom, virtually no noise, and well-balanced response across the entire gain range, the RedNet MP8R exceeds the expectations of live sound engineers.

Easy signal splits with DSP gain tracking

While the RedNet MP8R provides eight stellar mic inputs for your live sound system, it actually shows up as a 16-channel source on your Dante network. Each mic input is split into two - one direct feed that responds to that channel's gain control, and a second feed with DSP gain tracking. The DSP maintains a consistent output level for the second signal, irrespective of the analog mic gain setting. It's an easy way to send a high-quality audio split to a second engineer for monitor mixing or broadcast.

Convenient remote control via the RedNet network

Because you'll be using the RedNet MP8R as a component of a large-scale system, Focusrite makes it easy for you to control and re-route signals via a simple software control panel. No matter where you are in your facility, if you have access to the RedNet network from your computer you'll have complete control over every RedNet device connected to that network.

Focusrite RedNet MP8R Preamp/Interface w/Ethernet Features:
  • RedNet audio interface with redundant power supplies and networking for maximum reliability
  • Ideal for live sound, broadcast, and large installations
  • 8 high-quality Focusrite mic preamps, remote-controllable from any computer on the RedNet network
  • Each preamp channel provides two channels on the network for easy signal splits
  • Redundant networking via two Neutrik Ethercon locking network connectors
  • Redundant power supplies for maximum system reliability in any environment

You can enjoy the benefits of Focusrite’s classic heritage sound in many ways, but one of the most cost-effective is with the ISA 828, which includes eight Focusrite transformer-based mic preamps in a compact 2U package, along with front panel instrument ins and rear panel line inputs.

The Focusrite ISA mic preamp is based closely on the original design created by Rupert Neve in 1985 for Sir George Martin’s AIR Studios. Virtually unchanged over the years, the ISA mic preamp delivers the warm, full sound that could be just what you’re looking for – and if you use a significant number of microphones at once, the ISA828 is for you.

We just made one significant change to the design, and that was to add three additional input impedances to the original vintage ISA110 setting. Ranging from low to high impedance, the four settings enable you to get the very best sound from a vintage mic – it’s after all what the ISA was originally designed for – but also get a clean, transparent sound from the microphones of today. Or you can enhance a particular feature of your favourite microphones. Indeed, ISA makes the perfect match for any mic. There’s also a vintage design 75Hz / 18dB per octave high pass filter on each channel for detailed control of the bass end.

Four front-panel direct instrument inputs are also provided, with high and low impedance settings for extra versatility, and the input side is rounded out by eight TRS rear-panel line inputs. With convenient 25-pin D-type output connectors, ISA 828 is easy to interface with Avid Pro Tools | HD™ and other popular recording systems and consoles. There’s also an optional 8-channel A/D converter available with 122dB dynamic range and sampling up to 192kHz. An insert is available on each channel between the preamp and the A-D. 6-LED meters let you know exactly what is going on, and use the same reference points as Pro Tools | HD.

The Focusrite ISA Two mic preamp gives you the sonic essence of the legendary Forte and Studio consoles in a single rack unit chassis. You get two channels, with inputs for microphone, line-level, and direct instrument-level sources. A variable impedance selector also lets you dial in the warmth you want without sacrificing clarity. The ISA Two's DI and microphone inputs run in parallel, so you can blend the direct signal of the instrument with the sound of the miked up amplifier - a killer trick for getting bass sounds that are both fat and punchy. If warmth, transparency, and useful features are on your preamp wishlist, check out the Focusrite ISA Two.

Focusrite's ISA Two mic preamp has a distinguished heritage. Since its 1985 introduction, the transformer-based Focusrite pre amp has become something of a legend - and a benchmark for transparency. But there's something else going on. That something is a subtle warmth, courtesy of transformer core saturation. It's this apparent contradiction of warmth plus transparently open and unrestricted high frequencies, that identifies the Focusrite "sound" that continues to be in demand in top studios worldwide.

The Focusrite ISA Two has some innovative thinking under its bonnet. Just what engineering innovations contribute to a superior-sounding mic preamp? For one thing, to eliminate the audible rolloff exhibited by preamps limited to the audible bandwidth, Focusrite ISA pres operate over a much greater range (10Hz-135kHz, in the case of the ISA Two). There's also the ISA topology that gives you up to 80dB of undistorted gain. How about variable input impedance, which lets you fine-tune the amount of "character" in your signal - from pristine transparency, to vintage warmth.

Rupert Neve selected the Lundahl LL1538 as the input transformer for the legendary Focusrite ISA 110, and it's still the best microphone input transformer available - Focusrite specifies it in every one of their ISA Series mic pres. Mr. Neve also perfected the Zobel network (found in Focusrite's ISA circuit), which is responsible for the broad-bandwidth, ruler-flat frequency response exhibited by ISA preamps.

      Features:

      • Two channels of Focusrite goodness in a rackspace!
      • Lundahl LL1538 mic input transformer
      • Up to 80dB of gain
      • Variable input impedance

Back in the mid-1980s, Sir George Martin commissioned console design legend Rupert Neve to build a series of new, ˜no compromise™ console modules for AIR studios. They were an enormous hit and formed the basis of the Focusrite Studio Console, widely regarded as the best-sounding analogue recording console of all time. Today, the descendants of those modules are used in leading studios around the world, and their sought-after Focusrite Heritage Sound lies behind hundreds of hit records. Today™s ISA Range from Focusrite puts the classic sound of Focusrite into your own studio or live performance.

Featuring a rugged, portable all-metal enclosure, the ISA One combines the classic Focusrite microphone preamp with a flexible, independent DI channel and optional 192kHz precision A/D conversion.

At the heart of the ISA range is the microphone preamplifier with its Lundahl input transformer “ essentially the same circuit, based on the original ISA110, that has been used for 30 years in successive Focusrite designs. The input transformer imparts a special character to the sound that can™t be truly emulated in any other way: inseparable from the microphone itself, the transformer input stage is ideal for use with classic microphones. But this mic pre has a twist the original didn™t have, which makes it far more versatile: four carefully-selected impedances allow you to match microphone to input in different ways. Bring out the character of a classic mic or emphasise a special feature, or go for a totally transparent, modern sound “ it™s up to you.

Whether you'e an artist, engineer or producer, you™ll appreciate the versatility of the ISA One, with its front-panel DI input. The DI includes low/high impedance switching and an amplifier output, and its own feed to the optional A/D converter and separate rear-panel XLR output.

      Features:

      • ISA Series Transformer-based Preamplifier
      • Flexible Independent DI Channel
      • Switchable Impedance
      • Headphone Output with Volume Control
      • Dedicated Insert Point
      • Optional stereo 192kHz A-D converter

The Focusrite Heritage Sound – in a complete channel strip

Focusrite’s ISA range is based around the original ‘no compromise’ designs that recording console design legend Rupert Neve built for Sir George Martin back in the mid-1980s, and every unit delivers the sought-after Focusrite Heritage Sound that lies behind thousands of top class recordings made over the intervening years in the world’s leading studios. With the ISA Range, you can put that sound at the heart of your own work – and the ISA 430 Mk II is the most sophisticated of them all: a complete channel strip in which every element can be used independently or patched in virtually any order – including a classic mic pre, versatile EQ, VCA/optical compressor, expander/gate and de-esser.

The original mic pre - with just a little more

Inside the 2U rack-mount enclosure, the ISA 430 Mk II features a Lundahl transformer-input microphone preamplifier and equaliser based closely on the original ISA 110, itself based on the design for the A7971 console by Rupert Neve, incorporating suggestions from George Martin and engineer Geoff Emerick. Virtually all we’ve changed is to give the mic pre a variable input impedance to get the best out of any microphone, modern or vintage, accurately or for effect. There’s also a special “air” button that opens out the sound without EQ.

      Heritage equaliser with extra flexibility

The equaliser itself features two separate parametric bands plus shelving low and high frequencies, high- and low-pass filters and the ability to switch individual EQ elements into the compressor side-chain for frequency-conscious compression, gate keying and other effects. Indeed, the four powerful processors that make up the ISA 430 MkII can all be used independently or patched into each other in a variety of ways for maximum versatility.

Dynamics section combines heritage and modern technology

The dynamics section, once again, recalls the original Trevor Stride/Rupert Neve ISA 130 that dates back to 1987. It features a sophisticated expander/gate section as well as a versatile compressor, both featuring modern transparent VCA-based control elements for maximum compression without artefacts. But in addition, the compressor also features the original vintage optical design for a truly traditional sound, and you can also mix the original signal into the compressor output, maintaining dynamics as you take control. Like the other sections of the ISA 430 Mk II, there’s a “Listen” button so you can hear exactly what each module is doing.

The ISA 430 Mk II is supplied with analogue outputs for full integration into a traditional audio path. But it’s as perfect a front-end for a digital system as an analogue one, and with that in mind we’ve created an optional class-leading high-precision 192kHz, 24-bit 2-channel A-D card boasting 120dB dynamic range, that slots straight into the unit. Like the other sections of the ISA 430 Mk II, it can be used as part of the overall channel strip or employed independently.

Not only is the ISA 430 Mk II a powerful channel strip, combining heritage mic amps, equalisation and dynamics; and optional superb-quality digital conversion, each element (and in the case of the equaliser, each section) can be used as a completely separate device for the ultimate in versatility. The ISA 430 Mk II from Focusrite. It could be the last channel strip you’ll ever need.

      Heritage Sound times four

Focusrite’s ISA mic preamps can be traced back to 1985, when console designer Rupert Neve was asked by Sir George Martin to create new modules for the console at AIR Montserrat. The modules he created included the legendary ISA110, on which all ISA microphone preamps are based. With their characteristic Lundahl LL1538 input transformer, along with one concession to modernity – variable input impedance – ISA mic preamps are very much the same as they were 30 years ago. But today, instead of solely gracing the consoles at AIR, ISA mic pres are at the heart of hundreds of hits made in leading studios and by leading engineers, artists and producers, across the world.

Now in its second generation, the ISA 428 Mk II incorporates four of Focusrite’s renowned mic pres in a simple-to-operate 2U enclosure, placing four mic preamps, instrument inputs and line ins at your fingertips. The original Focusrite mic pre was designed to suit the microphones of the time; today’s model makes one small change, adding three additional input impedances to the classic ISA110 setting, allowing you to match any microphone, old or new, and access a wide range of sounds, from the character and warmth of a vintage mic to the clear transparency of a modern design. Or you can experiment and bring out just the qualities you want.

In addition to the mic inputs, there are four front-panel instrument inputs making the ISA428 Mk II ideal for overdubs in the control room with no need for a DI box. On the back: four line inputs and switchable insert points on each channel to allow routing via external signal processors. There’s also a versatile, vintage design variable high-pass filter to control what’s going on at the bass end. And finally… accurate, 6-LED meters to tell you exactly what’s going down. Optionally available for the ISA428 Mk II is a precision eight-channel A-D converter with 122dB dynamic range and superb jitter performance – ideal for simple interfacing with your DAW.
